Collumcille 1500, Bard Nua – Earagail Arts Festival

Outdoor exhibition by selected writers and artists of Scotland and Ireland, celebrating their native languages. Five visual story telling sculptures made for this landscape, part of my ‘Hidden stories in the landscape’ series created from Collumcille folklore inspired writing by Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhride. A seafaring journey of poetry with Rona Dhòmhnallach, Máire Dinny Wren, Gillebrìde MacMillan and Rody Gorman together with the artist Kim Sharkey. Children’s Books Ireland/KPMG Eilís Dillon Award 2020

Received the Eilís Dillon Award for a first children’s book with Mór agus Muilc illustration. For me this award goes posthumously also to the teller of the tale John Óg Hudi Nedi Ó Colla. The online awards event was a proud day for our Tom, my studio companion.

Multi media live link across Gealtacht Hubs telling the story of the new Irish . I worked with Nolunga Shologu developing art in image, film and ceramic to support the story she had to tell. Nolunga’s focus was to share her knowing since she was young and an unexpected aeroplane journey that she would live in a predominantly white environment and her later experiences as an asylum seeker leading her in Ireland to work in advocacy with others from similar backgrounds.
