Kim Sharkey is a multi-media artist living by the sea shore on the west coast of Ireland in Co. Donegal – working in art, illustration, ceramics, animation, as a workshop facilitator and in arts project management.
Kim completed an honours degree in Decorative Arts on first leaving school this cemented her life long passion for the hand made, specialising at that time in ceramics. Kim’s first exhibition works of showed porcelain paper clay light pieces adorned with translucent poetry. Kim went on to train in studio pottery skills, twenty years on after years of creativity in that field combined with workshop facilitation her love of words and story found Kim back in an educational setting where she combined the hand crafted with hand drawn elements and digital layering during an animation degree. In her last weeks of that degree she was chosen to present her final animation to HRH Prince Charles on his visit to Donegal. Thereafter receiving the Derek Hill award for creativity.
At last in this sumptuous combination of words, story, drawing, hand crafted and digitally combined work Kim felt creatively at home; she is developing collage style folklore based artworks, animations, prints and cards from her home in Donegal.

ART WITH OTHERS
‘I know how essential creativity and creating is to me. I love encouraging this part of our nature and skill set to flourish in others; therefore facilitating creative workshops has always been an integral part of my creative path. My experience has ranged from working one to one, to working with groups of up to sixty people! …and from busy boisterous toddlers to amazingly, wonderful ninety two years olds.’
Since 2011 I have had the pleasure of being a member of Design and Crafts Council of Ireland’s education panel; more recently becoming the regional co-ordinator for CRAFTed their education flagship programme in Donegal, this has afforded me great training and practical experience of how best creative projects can be applied across the school curriculum and the essential team dynamics of teacher, children and artist. Not to mention the opportunity to witness many wonderful innovative creations take flight by the children involved with these projects.
